EMP has always placed a strong emphasis on sustainability. For us, that begins by maintaining an ecologically friendly footprint, including:
- Developing and implementing earth-friendly/low-impact manufacturing practices
- Recycling virtually all of our waste streams
- Minimizing excess packaging in the products we ship
Our pledge to sustainability is evident in every aspect of our culture and is a guiding principle in the choices we make, the markets we serve, and the customers with whom we choose to partner.
Below are a few examples of EMP working to achieve a healthier Eco Footprint.
Reduce Waste
EMP employs various processes to maximize recycling of metal scrap parts, filings, and tailings from our manufacturing process. In 2015, more than 150,000 pounds of aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and mixed metals were recovered from our operation, and returned to be re-melted and reused. EMP actively recycles all plastics, cardboard and paper for post-consumer markets in the U.S. and abroad.
Energy Conservation
Located in a 51,000 sq. ft. facility, we have employed the latest heating and cooling technologies to keep the facility at an optimal temperature. In winter, we warm the production plant through a heat recuperation system that recovers excess energy from our compressors, CNC machines, and related manufacturing equipment. In summer, low energy evaporative cooling is utilized to keep the manufacturing floor comfortable for our employees and guests.
Green Packaging
EMP has taken various steps to improve its packaging while minimizing the impact to the environment.
We have replaced our white shipping boxes with unbleached brown boxes made from recycled materials and developed re-usable materials to package and ship components. We’ve also replaced large bubble wrap (100% plastic with low biodegradability) with brown paper packaging that is 100% renewable, recyclable, reusable and biodegradable.
Through energy conservation, waste recycling, and green packaging, EMP continues to make a conscious effort to reduce its carbon footprint.
